It protects any wounds or sores from getting septic. Moreover, it not only provides relief from inflammations on the skin, but also internal inflammations in the nervous or circulatory system. It is also anti-spasmodic in nature. Given this quality, it helps relieve any muscle cramps and body aches by easing out excessive contractions. The compounds in sandalwood oil also act as expectorants and relieve thick congestion to provide respiratory relief.

An important healing property of sandalwood essential oil is that it is cicatrisant in nature. In other words, it encourages the formation of scar tissue, thus helping the fading away of scars and marks on the body. This oil also contains natural emollients that soften the skin and correct any dryness or scaling.

Although this oil has minimal side effects, excessive use has been shown to increase pulse rate and blood pressure.
